If it’s fall, it is time for the Dixie Classic Fair.

Fall also means the Bermuda Run Garden Club members are focusing on the flower show. This event is sponsored by the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Judges Council and The Dixie Classic Fair which is the second largest fair in the state.

To encourage more gardening and designing of backyard flowers, the club members participate in the design, container plants, and horticulture segments of the fair. Members also submit entries in competitions of their choice.

Judges are recruited from across the state and are not local.

While the exhibition lasts only a few days, preparation, selection, and nurturing the plants begins months ahead.

This year, 2019, there were 163 ribbons awarded to club members.

Peggy Shuppert won a blue ribbon in the “Petite Design” category for her entry in addition to winning the top award for the entire Petite Design Division.

Being able to exhibit flowers and design entries and to receive winning ribbons and awards are a source of pride for the Bermuda Run Garden Club members.

The club is a chartered club of 39 members who meet monthly for educational programs and to plan service projects. The prize monies given for ribbons go to the club to support Davie community projects and organizations. Some of those are Storehouse for Jesus, Meals on Wheels, Special Needs Children Thanksgiving Outreach, the school Lunch Buddies program, and Pearls of Empowerment.
