The holiday season is alive and well at Davie County Senior Services.
The first full week in December brought joy and happiness to everyone who participated in events and activities.
On Tuesday, Dec. 7, the Bermuda Run Garden Club brought by beautiful holiday floral arrangements for each of the senior homebound meal clients. The holiday season is often the most difficult time of year for the homebound seniors, and these flowers help spread the joy of the season with the clients.
During this holiday season, Senior Services is struggling to find Meals on Wheels drivers. The Meals on Wheels program is vital to the lives of almost 140 older adults in our county. If you can find the time once a month, once a week, or once a quarter to deliver meals to the homebound population in Davie County, it is greatly needed. If you are hesitant about driving because of monetary issues, you are eligible for mileage reimbursement. There is room for you to volunteer, so please consider donating your time to this program. Call S336-753-6230 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. any weekday and speak to Nutrition Coordinator Stacey Southern.
Thursday, Dec. 9 was a great day to get in the holiday spirit. At the 10 a.m. Senior Lunchbox program, participants created colorful holiday ornaments to place on their Christmas trees. This was fun to watch and led by Susan Connors, a volunteer. The Senior Lunchbox group partakes in crafting activities throughout the year and would love for you to join them for an activity and lunch each day. As Thursday continued, Senior Services decorated the multipurpose room with holiday décor. There were red and black holiday napkins that said Merry Christmas in white writing plus a gorgeous poinsettia in the center of the table and then lanterns with lit candles surrounded by holly leaves. This set the mood for a perfect Christmas Party. The Christmas Party was a smashing hit with 122 people in attendance and full of cheer. The food was delectable and featured Cheerwine punch, cocktail hotdogs, reindeer food, mixed nuts, an elaborate fruit display featuring a Christmas tree made of fruit, and white cupcakes with black and red sprinkles to fit the theme. The entertainment was provided by the outstanding Singing Seniors directed by Marie Craig. The Singing Seniors were an absolute joy to hear and will be coming back to perform at the Senior Lunchbox program for a special Christmas sing-a-long event.
On Friday, Dec. 10, Senior Services participants attended the Davie County Library’s final Crafternoon for the year – DIY Waterless Snow Globes. Participants look forward to the craft each month and have enjoyed this time of creating and laughing together. Jazmyne Baylor, adult services librarian, has outdone herself this year on the Crafternoon programs, and there were several memories made for all who participate.

The Meet the Candidates event scheduled for Feb. 10 has been postponed due to the extension of filing for candidates and will be rescheduled for another date coming up in the following quarter.
