Incumbents get nod in GOP county race; 3 new faces among school board winners

Incumbent Republicans won nominations in the race for the Davie County Board of Commissioners, and three Republican newcomers won spots on the Davie Board of Education on Tuesday.

Mark Jones led all Republican candidates for three nominations to face Libertarian Justin Vocke in November. Jones tallied 5,684 votes in unofficial results, and will appear in the November ballot along with Terry Renegar with 3,988 votes and Richard Poindexter with 3,540 votes. Others receiving votes were Craig Myers with 2,524, Dustin Smith with 2,056 votes, Bill Vaughan with 2,038, Mike Butero with 1,977, Charles Odell Williams with 1,086 and Douglas Rivers with 828.

The four top finishers in the Republican race for seats on the board of education will likely be elected in November, as no other party candidates filed. They are Jeff Jones with 6,008 votes, Michael Hunter with 5,705, W.G. “Dub” Potts with 5,308 and Stephanie Hurst with 4,891. Trailing the field were Ray Wright with 4,148 votes and Jeff Plott with 3,911.
