One acre at a time,

The space between

my neighbors and I,

once waving its song

through trees and grass,

once singing its tune:

“There is room.

There is room

for me and for you,”

vanished.

Devoured by paved parking lots

And buildings with hollow eyes,

The space now utters:

“It’s never enough.

It’s never enough.”
