Davie County’s new 4-H Extension Agent, Abby Williams, is thrilled to join the community.

Williams is from Brevard, where she grew up participating in 4-H events, clubs and presentations.

“4-H gave me the opportunity to gain public speaking and leadership skills while also participating in and tackling the needs of my local community,” she said. “I have consistently grown my network of fellow 4-Hers through school and my daily life.”

She is a graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and studied biology and anthropology.

She has worked in natural resource and environmental education for years and her passion for the outdoors, community and youth development has landed her in this role in Davie.

“I am very excited to learn about the interests and skills of the kids in the county and to help make the best better.”

4-H is the largest youth development program in the nation and provides opportunities for kids ages 5 to 18 to learn by doing. They are able to learn about topics of their interest including outdoor sports, plants, animals, electricity, engineering, and cooking while developing key skills in leadership and community service.

Many kids in 4-H leave with more confidence in public speaking, leading others and mastery of their chosen area of interest, Williams said.

“I am looking forward to being a part of this community and assisting with 4-H participation not only on the county level, but the surrounding counties and state level as well.”

4-H is a branch of N.C. Cooperative Extension that provides resources to assist local farmers, land and homeowners in tconsumer sciences, livestock, horticulture and field crops. Extension is run and supported through NC State University and Davie County.
