She had already turned 80, so Lois Jeannette Richie of Mocksville had no idea that a party was about to happen.

But in mid-April, she was surprised by more than 50 friends and family members at Mocksville Family Restaurant. The theme was hummingbirds, one of her loves. Theresa Smith provided a cake adorned with hummingbirds.

Her son, Wayne “Oz” Richie of Little Rock, Ark., her only child, helped organize the party.
