Frances Elizabeth Weaver Martin, 97, of Mocksville, died Monday, March 14, 2022.
She was born in Victoria, Va., the only daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. R.S. Weaver. Elizabeth met and married Lester Martin while working for the State Health Department in Richmond, Va. Soon thereafter, they moved to Wake Forest where to the union were born two sons, later moving to Davie County. She taught fourth and fifth grade in Mocksville for 28 years; was chairman of the fund-raising committee for the addition to the Davie County Public Library; and although born and raised an Episcopal, she joined her husband’s church and taught Sunday school and became a deacon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, and 2 brothers, Bob and Joe.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Pete and Bob (Laura); and a granddaughter, Elizabeth.
Her husband said he was grateful to the Commonwealth of Virginia because she gave him the father of his country and the mother of his sons. On her first trip to North Carolina to meet her new Davie County relatives, one of whom was alleged to have observed, “she is pretty, but a little light for garden work.”
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 19 at Lambert Funeral Chapel. Her niece and godchild, Rev. Elizabeth W. Libbey, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
