An Advance man was arrested last week in a nationwide roundup of internet child pornography suspects.
The Davie County Sheriff’s Office conducted an operation Thursday, Feb. 10 following up on multiple tips related to internet crimes against children.
Peter M. McDevitt, 77, of 144 N. Niblick Ct., Advance, was charged with 10 counts of third-degree exploitation of a minor. He was given a $100,000 unsecured bond and placed on house arrest.
“We would like to thank the assisting agencies for helping DCSO protect children from the dangers that come with access to the wide open, all information available, world we live in now,” said Davie Sheriff JD Hartman.
Other arrests are likely as officers continue the investigation, he said.
Davie officers were assisted by agents with Homeland Security, FBI, NC SBI, Hickory Police, Mint Hill Police, Mooresville Police, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Winston Salem Police, Gaston County Police, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office, Boone Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers conducted three search warrants and investigations at 15 more locations. Seventeen electronic devices were seized.
