James ‘Brownie’ Brownlow Hicks

James “Brownie” Brownlow Hicks, 81, of Mocksville, NC, departed this world from Novant Forsyth Medical Center on Feb. 5, 2022.
Brownie, as he was so lovingly known as, was born on Sept. 25, 1940 in Wautaga County, NC, son of the late Clinard Hicks and Beulah (Presnell) Hicks. In addition to his parents, Brownie was preceded in death by his 2 sons, Kenneth Ray Hicks and James Butch Hicks.
In life, Brownie attended schools in North Carolina. He worked as a supervisor at Crown Wood for over 20 years before retiring in 2003. Brownie married the love of his life, Sue (Wood) Hicks in 1963 in Davie County. Brownie was a was a great man, he loved spending time with his family, he was a fan of NASCAR, and he enjoyed working in the yard until he no longer was able.
Brownie leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Sue Hicks of Mocksville; 3 children, Stacy Hicks, Scott Hicks (Tammy), and Tracy Hicks, all of Mocksville; 3 siblings, Haymon Hicks (Penny), Junior Hicks (Gracie), and Jean Hunt, all of Lexington; 2 grandchildren, Victoria Angell and special grandson, Josh Chunn; 2 great-grandchildren, Alyana and Dylan; and 2 four-legged best friends, Bear and Tanner, who will all miss him very much.
A visitation for Brownie was held on Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 2-3p.m. at Davie Funeral Service of Mocksville. Following visitation, a funeral service took place at 3 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service of Mocksville. Pastor Greg McGwen officiated. Brownie was laid to rest in Davie Baptist Church Cemetery.
