Four Davie volleyball teams have risen to the 20-win plateau. Amber Brandon has guided three of the four during her seven-year run as coach.
The first three came in 1981 (21-6 record), 2017 (23-5) and 2018 (22-3).
Davie got win No. 20 in the first round of the Central Piedmont Conference Tournament over winless Parkland on Oct. 18 at Davie. The scores were 25-3, 25-4, 25-2. The eighth-seeded Mustangs finished 0-19.
One day later, top-seeded Davie and No. 4 East Forsyth held a rubber match in the semifinals at Davie. The War Eagles beat East 3-2 on Sept. 2. East returned the favor, 3-0, on Sept. 28.
East pulled out a five-set decision. The scores were 25-21, 15-25, 25-15, 22-25, 13-15. Combine the scores from every set and it is 101-100 in East’s favor.
East won for the 10th time in 11 tries and lifted its overall record to 16-6. Davie had won eight straight since the loss at East.
No. 2 West Forsyth beat East in three sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-17) in the final. The Titans improved to 20-6.
The War Eagles had no trouble bouncing back. In the first round of the state playoffs on Oct. 23, they blasted visiting South Mecklenburg 25-8, 25-18, 25-16.
After finishing third in their conference behind Ardrey Kell and Myers Park, the Sabres closed at 9-10. In the second round, Davie (21-4) met South Iredell on the road on Tuesday.
