Mr. Robert Lee “Bob” Whitley, 83, of Winston-Salem, died on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021.
He was born March 7, 1938 in Forsyth County to Hoyt Lee Whitley and Frankie Russell Whitley. He served in the National Guard and was a former member of South Fork Baptist Church. He later became a member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, wood working and gardening.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Carole Finlayson Whitley in 2002; and a sister, Colene Ziglar in 2020.
Surviving: his wife of 16 years, Ann Hayes Whitley; 2 daughters, Lisa Hedgecock (Zane) and Ann “Missy” Adams (Jeff); 5 grandchildren, Daniel Hedgecock, Caroline Clark, Andrew, Mallory and Matthew Adams; great-grandchildren, Weldon and Trigg Hedgecock; 4 stepchildren, Teresa Smith (Steve), Jeff Smith (Lynn), Beth DeHart and Dawn Myers (Vince); 8 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Whitley will lie in state from noon-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Ronnie Craddock officiating. The family will receive friends at Yadkin Valley Baptist Fellowship Hall at noon following the service.
