Davie County commissioners voted to extend the moratorium on new solar power generating facilities for six months – to February 2022.
County planner Andrew Meadwell said the extension is needed for staff to draft an ordinance and receive public input.
They got input during the public hearing for the extension from Jerry Shore, a property owner who had been involved in a large project at Ratledge and Junction roads.
Shore suggested the new rules include language that all information “be certified” and truthful in new applications, that all planning board members and county commissioners be required to visit the site, and that the rights of the landowners be considered.
Commissioner Richard Poindexter asked Meadwell to consider Shore’s requests, which he called “relevant and deserve serious consideration.”
