It happens almost every time there is a tragedy at a school.

Rumors – mostly fueled on social media – circulate that it is going to happen in a school in Davie County.

That was the case last week as the news of a shooting at Mt. Tabor High School in Winston-Salem spread.

“We do not have any credible information on any threats,”  Sheriff J.D. Hartman said in a Facebook post on Friday. “Officers have checked and continue to check any information that is received.

“Keep in mind that you may read something on social media that was posted days ago and has already been investigated or checked on. Due to the nature of social media, these things continue to spread.

“We highly recommend that you not use social media as a trusted source of information.”
