As photos show, folks of all ages enjoyed a day of family fun, good food, and display of vintage and classic vehicles Saturday at the “Cruise-In” at Piney Grove AME Zion Church.
Upcoming community events: St. Matthews Lutheran Church homecoming at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 27; and vacation Bible school at Society Baptist Sunday, Aug. 1-Wednesday, Aug. 4.
Our community extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Muriel Boyd Studevent, who died Wednesday of last week at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. One of four children, she was born in 1951 in Davie County to the late Willie Richard Jr. and Margaret Jeffries Studevent of Fred Lanier Road off US 64 West. She attended Piney Grove AME Zion Church with her family and attended Davie schools. Throughout her life she lived at her family homeplace on Fred Lanier and remained a faithful member of Piney Grove, where she served in the missionary department, sang in the senior choir, and helped in many other ways. A service celebrating her life was held last Tuesday at noon in the chapel of Roberts Funeral Service of Mocksville; she was laid to rest in the cemetery of Piney Grove near her parents.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Sonny “Jay” Thompson; who died Saturday, May 29. One of six children, he was born in 1953 in Iredell County to Kathy Murray and the late Son Thompson Jr. He attended Iredell schools, initially joined Lilly’s Chapel Commandment Keeper and later attended Mt. Carmel TPC. He was reader and music lover. A service celebrating his life was held last Sunday afternoon in the chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary of Statesville; he was laid to rest beside his father in the cemetery of Piney Gove AME Zion Church.
Our community sends get-well wishes to Margie Beck and Judy Koontz. Margie had surgery and is receiving physical therapy at home. Judy was hospitalized last week and is recuperating at home. Carol W. Holton is recuperating at home. Alice C. Waugh remains in rehab at Maple Leaf of Statesville.
Join us in prayer for the Lord’s divine healing and blessings upon Margie, Judy, Carol, Alice, and other residents who are having health problems. Pray for the Lord’s comfort and blessings upon the families of Jay and Muriel as they adjust to life without their loved ones. Remember in prayer Leonard and Jennifer Godbey; her sister Beverly Scaaden of Beaufort suffered a massive stroke and died Wednesday of last week.
It’s graduation time and we will again honor our graduates. If you are, or know of, a graduate or one receiving special recognition or a certificate the past year; please email a photo with information to sdtlink@hotmail.com to be included in our tribute to our students.
