Marion Hester ‘Gaynelle’ Crouse

Ms. Marion “Gaynelle” Hester Crouse, 100, of King, died on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She was born in Forsyth County to the late Lucile Miller and Curtis Lee Hester on Feb. 9, 1921. Her children remember her as one of the hardest working women they knew, raising five children on her own. She managed Pine Tree Golf Snack Bar for more than 30 years and could make the best hotdogs. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, planting flowers and cooking for family. She stayed busy all her life, she told her family after retiring at age 83 that she wished she was still working. She had many loves which included her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and animals (especially dogs and llamas).

She was also preceded in death by: a son, Walter Wayne Crouse; grandson, Peyton Jones; and sister, Helen Nichols.

Survivors: her children, Carolyn Jones (Elisha), William Crouse (Sherry), Stephen Crouse (Gloria) and Philip Crouse Sr. (Renee’); grandchildren, Jeff Jones (Susan), Jennifer Markland (Michael), Heather Slie (Ryan), Kim Tenhulsen (Bryan), Karrie Crouse (Will), Philip Crouse Jr. (Mandy) and Clayton Crouse (Anita); great-grandchildren, Patterson Jones Tallent (Dalton), Peyton, Presley, Anne-Marie and David Jones, Isaiah (Emmie), Jared and Nathan Whitley, Adalee, Caris, Bryce, Everly, Juliet and Asher Crouse, Charlie, Lily and Brooklyn Slie; sisters, Jackie Danner and Sylvia “Benny” Sanford .

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Dr. Philip Crouse Jr. and Pastor Elisha Robertson officiating. I
