Mr. Joe Dean Lanier Sr., 84, of NC 801 S., Advance, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

He was born May 13, 1935 in Davie County to the late John Burton and Lula Mae Bailey Lanier. Mr. Lanier was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church and retired from Wachovia Bank. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and his goats.

He was also preceded in death by: his wife, Margaret Nifong Crotts Lanier; 2 sons, Joe Lanier Jr. and Larry Crotts; an infant daughter, Kathy Lanier; and a brother, J.B. Lanier.

Survivors: his children, Rickey Eugene Crotts (Okhui) of Lexington, Linda Cornatzer of Advance and Cindy Cornatzer (Dale) of Mocksville; 7 grandchildren, Charles Crotts (La Tisha), Chris Cornatzer (Sarah), Chad Cornatzer (Brooke), Brandi Patti (Victor), Derek Cornatzer, Christy Smith and Gene Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; Garren Crotts, Brecken Crotts, Cainnen Crotts, Tyler Coble, Cameron Coble, Connor Cornatzer, Tate Cornatzer, Addison Dull, Charlie Dull, Baylor Grace Patti and Lexi Patti; daughters-in-law, Shirley Crotts and Mary Lanier; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7 at Fulton United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dustin James officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
