Mrs. Jo Ann Allen Barney, 84, formerly of Dogwood Lane, Mocksville, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born July 22, 1935, in Surry County to the late Clyde Lafaete and Ivy Pauline Sofley Allen. She loved gardening and was known for having the best-looking flower garden in her community. She loved decorating and was an exercise enthusiast.
She was also preceded in death by: her husband, Tony Major Barney Sr.; a son, Richard Barney; and siblings, Jimmy Allen, Fred Allen and Shelby Hutchens.
Survivors: 3 children, Martha Johnson (Jim) of Montgomery, Ala., Tony Barney Jr. and Diane Vogler, both of Advance; 4 sisters, Jane Sammons (Dwight), Peggy Gaither (Butch), Glenda Allen and Darlene Naylor (Dale); 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3 at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. The family received friends following the service. A private burial will follow at a later time.
