Mr. Bruce Edward Hinkle Sr., 94, of Mocksville, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at Somerset Court.

He was born Nov. 11, 1924 in Davie County to the late Herman and Viola Munday Hinkle.  He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Hinkle was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where he was secretary of his Sunday school class, served many years on the cemetery committee, and was a member of the United Methodist Men.  He worked at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, where he retired in 1984. He also owned Re-Nu Dry Cleaners and closed it in 1973.

He was also preceded in death by: his wife, Emma Christine Hinkle (2016); a daughter, Vera Lynna Hinkle (1961); a son, Paul Christopher Hinkle (2017); a brother, Dallas Hinkle (1977); and a sister, Audrey (Dottie) Potts (2010).

Survivors: 4 children, Ed Hinkle (Elizabeth), Cathy Edwards (Cliff), all of Mocksville, Dora Grandy (Tom) of Owensboro, Ky., and Delia Hinkle of Yakima, Wash.; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Hinkle (Debi) of Raleigh.

The family will receive friends at Liberty United Methodist Church on Friday, Aug. 23 from 2-3 p.m.  The memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. with Dr. Steve Rainey officiating.  Military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
