Star Trek Escape Planet Monday at library

The Davie County Public Library’s Summer Learning Program for 2019, “A Universe of Stories” will be aligning for a landing by Aug. 5

On Monday, Au. 5 at 6:30 p.m., The Adult Services & Technology Librarian, Derrick Wold, will offer a Star Trek Escape Planet adventure for teens and adults.

“Q has taken crew members of the Star Ship Enterprise to a deserted planet without their communicators,” Wold said. “Players must pass his tests to get their communicators back to teleport to their ship within the hour, or they will succumb to the planet’s harsh environment.”

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the Youth Services Department will host “MAKE: Asteroids and Comets” at 10:30 a.m. The crafts are most suited for elementary aged youth.

From 2-4 p.m., Wold will host a workshop for teens on the use of Green Screens for photo editing.

Ranger will be available for readers from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m.

At the Cooleemee Branch on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 10:30 a.m. will be “MAKE: A Dream Catcher.”

On Wednesday at 11 a.m., the movie will be “SOLO: A Star Wars Story,” rated PG13 and showing for 135 minutes. Families are welcome to bring lunch or snacks, their ground cover, covers and pillows to view the movie on the giant screen in the multi-purpose room. A document is on the Kids & Teen page with links to Common Sense Media to help parents decide if the film is appropriate for their family.

Thursday is for reading clubs. Next Chapter Book Club for Teens and Adults with Intellectual Differences will meet from 1-2 p.m.to enjoy a short story from the new book; “New Love, Spilt Milk, and Potbellied Pigs” by Thomas Fish and Jillian Ober.

From 2:15-3:15 Mrs. Archer will host a discussion of the battle of the Books novel Front Desk by Kelly Yang. From 3:15-5:15, the Legos and Games carts will be available for drop-in use. An intern can help with Lego Mindstorms.

On Friday at 11 a.m., Miss Shannon will offer a story time about cmping.

On Monday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m., the Friends of the Library will host an ice cream social to celebrate the end of the Summer Learning Program- A Universe of Stories. Ryan Short will be on hand to tie balloon sculptures for participants. Reading records are due and final prizes will be awarded. If your family is unable to attend, reading records can be collected and final prizes will be available for pick-up.
