Dorothy Graham of Graham Funeral Home is retiring.

“This has been the most difficult decision I’ve had to make in my life,” she said. “I feel so close to many of you. I’ve watched many of you grow up, go to school, get jobs, get married, and live life in general. I have been so blessed to be a part of your lives.  Recent health problems with my eyesight has influenced my decision to retire.”

Her career in funeral service began in 1957.  In 1997, she became the first female to own a funeral home in Davie County.

“Over the years, I have served on many boards and committees in the county.  A wall in my home is filled with plaques and accomplishments, for which I am very grateful. Even though I will not be at Graham Funeral Home from day to day, I intend to stay involved in our community.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you. I thank my family for their support and assistance while I worked 62 years in funeral service.  We look forward to a smooth succession, which will be announced soon.”
