What do you do with that American flag that has seen better days?

You dispose of it properly.

Jackson Lawrence, a Boy Scout in Troop 575, is making that disposal as easy as dropping it off in a box.

As a part of his project in becoming an Eagle Scout, Lawrence decided to create a drop box where people can place used flags. The flags will later be disposed of properly, according to flag etiquette.

The stainless steel drop box, re-purposed from a mailbox on the UNC Chapel Hill campus, is available at all times, lit by solar lights. It is near the parking lot of the Davie County Public Library on North Main Street in Mocksville.

The final installation was on Memorial Day.

Lawrence worked with Trailers of the East Coast to provide graphics for the box.

He is the second Eagle Scout in his family: older brother Andrew earned the rank in 2017. His younger brother, Daniel, is a First Class Scout in Troop 575.
