Two people were charged with child neglect after authorities found a child confined to a playpen in a residence filled with animal feces.

Matthew Deblasio, 36, and Kristen McDonald, 28, both of Golfview Drive in Bermuda Run, were each charged on June 6 with child neglect by the Davie County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff J.D. Hartman said his department was contacted by a service worker who witnessed conditions inside of the condominium.

He reported that animal feces was present on the floors and on furnishings in the apartment. The child was confined to a playpen, with a blanket on top and secured with bungee cords. The feces was all around the playpen, he said.

Davie Social Services was called, and allowed the family to keep the child, just not in that home, he said. Family members told investigators they had elderly dogs that were unable to go outside.
