Mary Ruth Simpson Kimmer, 82, of Mocksville, died on June 6, 2019 in Mocksville.

She was born Feb. 28, 1937 in Surry County, a daughter to the late Sam W. Simpson and Lula Wood Simpson. She graduated from White Plains High School with the class of 1954. She later married Bill Kimmer.

She was also preceded in death by: her son, Tony Dale Kimmer; 4 brothers, Raymond William (infant), A. Wayne Simpson, Troy W. Simpson, Harry F. Simpson; and a grandson, Terry Kimmer Jr.

She worked as a seamstress at C.A. Blackwelder for 42 years. She made many friends there during her working years. She was a member of the West Yadkin Assembly of God for many years. She loved her church family, especially Mrs. Dorothy Childress, her best friend. She enjoyed the Women’s Ministry, serving at meetings and preparing great desserts for all the women. She loved her Lord and Savior, her family and had many long-time friends. She also loved her Davie Nursing & Rehab family, staff and residents. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening in her flowers and took great pride in her home and yard.

Survivors: her husband of 63 years, Bill Kimmer; her son, Terry Kimmer Sr. of Mocksville; brother, Homer Simpson of Tro; sisters, JoAnn Brooks of Hamptonville and Deborah Whitt of Mocksville; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Saturday, June 8, at the Davie Funeral Service Chapel in Mocksville from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A funeral service was held on Sunday, June 9 at the West Yadkin Assembly of God in Hamptonville at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bobby Jenkins officiating. Family received friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
