The Davie Community Foundation SURF Board had a successful grant season for 2018-2019.

The board raised $14,603.78 in sponsor donations and proceeds from the 2019 Popsicle 5K.

On May 6, the S board held its big check celebration to hear results from 2018 grant recipients, and to make grant awards for 2019. This year, SURF awarded $11,500 in grants that will benefit youth and children in Davie County.

A total of $1,500 was awarded to Davie County Special Olympics for the Back on Track project. This project will be used to establish a Special Olympics Track Team to compete in the 2019 State Summer Olympics. The students who wrote the grant have already started working with the team and they have nine students participating.

A total of $10,000 was awarded to fund a mobile cart in the markerspace at Cognition Davie, an interactive learning center coming to Mocksville in 2020. The upper level of Cognition will contain hands-on exhibits and the lower level will contain a makerspace geared toward middle and high school age students. With STEAM focused and industry related activities and programming, Cognition will be designed to enable learning and exploration for all ages.

The SURF Board would like to thank all who attended their big check celebration.
