Mary Helen Smith Shook, 87, of Statesville, died on May 6, 2019 at Maple Leaf Healthcare in Statesville.

A native of Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Watkins Smith and Sophia Alma Smith. She was also preceded in death by: her husband, John Calvin Shook; 3 stepsons, Jerry, Johnny and Ricky Shook; and 5 brothers, Glen, Eugene, Morgan, Alton and Wylie Smith.

She was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors: a stepson, Danny Shook (Denise); a sister, Norma Smith Royal; a step daughter-in-law, Gabriel (Gabby) Shook; 2 step-granddaughters, Tammy and Cindy Shook; a step-grandson, Joseph Shook; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kristine, Bronson, Noah and Jonah Moose.

Mrs. Shook was buried Thursday, May 9 beside her husband at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Statesville.
