Mr. Anthony Ray “Tony” Merritt, 58, died on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his home in Jonesville.

Mr. Merritt was born Nov. 28, 1960 in Forsyth County to Ray Southern and Virginia “Hazel” Harrell. He enjoyed rock climbing, riding motorcycles, going to concerts, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by: his wife, Brenda Barbre Merritt; a step-father, William “Bill” Wayne Harrell; a brother, Ronnie Lee Merritt; and his special K-9 companion, Ozzy.

Survivors: a daughter, Christy (Chad) Laughter; a step-daughter, Shannon Marion; 2 grandchildren, Oryan Dinkins and Ronan Laughter, and one to arrive in October; 2 step-grandchildren, Amiyah Marion and Tyler Marion; his sisters, Tina S. Tilley, G.R. Merritt and Peggy (James) Floyd; and a brother, Michael (Beth) Harrell.

His wish was to have no formal service, but to have his ashes spread in the North Carolina mountains.
