Herbert W. Taylor, 83, of Mocksville, died on April 8, 2019.
He was born in Hallowell, Maine on Aug. 27, 1935 to Dorothy and William Taylor. He held a special place in his heart for his step-father who raised him, Dan Larrabee.
He raised his family in Maine before he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Bradley, W.Va. where he attended Appalachian Bible College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1985 as an ordained minister. They moved to New Castle, Va. where he spent several years driving trucks before settling in Mocksville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He was known for telling stories, harassing telemarketers and watching “new” episodes of Gunsmoke. He had a big heart and was willing to help those in need.
He was preceded in death by: his mother and father; a sister, Polly; and 2 sons, Herb and Tim.
Survivors: his wife of 58 years, Barbara Taylor; a son and his wife, Ellsworth and Terry Taylor of Pittston, Maine; daughter and her significant other, Kimberly Bledsoe and Richard Leonard of Mocksville; daughter-in-law, Gail Taylor of Chelsea, Maine; daughter, Olive Morrow of Sacramento, Calif.; and a sister, Dorothy Bibber of Brooksville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren including a special relationship with Kristin Craft, Nicole Sousa, Wesley Taylor, Amber Taylor-Soares, Jackie Bledsoe, and Nila Jean Goodwin; 15 great-grandchildren, including a set of twins on the way.
