Linda Whitaker Idol, 66, died on March 25, 2019.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1952 to Roy and Magdeline (Maggie) Whitaker. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Whitaker.

She attended Davie County Schools and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1974, and earned her master’s degree in elementary education from Catawba College in 1997. She retired from Davie County Schools as an elementary teacher. She was an NC State Extension Volunteer Master Gardener, helping with programs for children; and tended a small vegetable garden in Bethabara Park.

Survivors: her son, Kelly Carter Idol; 2 sisters, Lois Williams (Felix) of Mocksville, Joyce Rabon of Salisbury; 2 brothers, Bob Whitaker (Sandra) of Winston-Salem, Steve Whitaker of Mocksville; many nieces, nephews and cousins; 2 aunts, Marie (Rita) Chandler and Gail Frye (Pete), all of Mocksville; and her best friend, Tim Traynor of Winston-Salem.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1804 Rainbow Road, Advance, with the Rev. Bob Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
