Dorothy Mae Coulter Reid

Dorothy Mae Coulter Reid of Conover died on Jan. 28, 2019 at Abernathy Laurels in Newton.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1928 in Maiden to Robert and Margie Coulter. She met the love of her life in George Reid Jr. and they were blessed with 7 children and over 50 years of marriage. She was a lifelong member of Coulters Grove AME Zion Church. There she was an active member of the Ladies Service Club, a Deaconess, Missionary and the Director of the Bud’s of Promise youth missions’ group. Mrs. Reid continued to serve as an active member of the Gospel Choir, Chancellor Choir and Stewardess Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Reid Jr.; 2 children Pricilla Reid and Aaron Reid; her son-in-law, John Rhinehardt Sr.; 2 great-grandchildren, Zoe and Joi Rhinehardt; her siblings, Silvester Coulter (Nettie), James Coulter, Harvey Coulter, Sherman Coulter, Odell Coulter (Anne), John Coulter (May); her brother-in-law, Jacob Shuford Sr.; and sister-in-law, Louise Reid.

Survivors: 5 children, Jerry Coulter (Peggie), George Reid III (Carolyn), the Rev. Dr. April Rhinehardt, Sheila Rhinehardt (Andrew), Beverly Reid; her daughter-in-law, Feury Reid; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Shuford; brother-in-law, John Reid, sisters-in-law, Mary Lois Gray and Betty Joe Wilson; other relatives and friends.

Her funeral service was held on Friday, Feb. 1 at Coulters Grove AME Zion Church. The Rev. Michael Hester officiated, and the Rev. Dr. April R. Rhinehardt delivered the eulogy.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.  The family received friends at the church one hour before the service.
