Hospital foundation dissolved

The non-profit Davie County Hospital Foundation has dissolved, and its $2 million or so in assets have been distributed to provide health care for Davie residents for generations to come.

County commissioners last month outlined some of the details, and presented proclamations to Barbara Allen and Avalon Potts, charter foundation board members.

“These two did a lot of work … faithfully and unselfishly giving of their time and talent,” said County Manager John Eller.

All of the foundation’s money was put into three funds at the Davie Community Foundation: the first provides scholarships to Davie students entering the health care field; another will provide grants for the promotion and betterment of the health of Davie residents; and the third will establish a capital fund for the new hospital.

“The dollars will stay in Davie County,” said Terry Renegar, chair of the county commissioners.

The old hospital building in Mocksville was donated to the county, which is trying to determine what health care services will be provided there, Renegar said.
