Gail Hendrix Houser

Mrs. Gail Hendrix Houser, 78, of Charlottesville, Va., born in Mocksville to Elgin and Betsy Hendrix, died on Dec. 21, 2018.

She graduated from Davie County High School and earned a degree in education at Appalachian State University in Boone. She taught fourth grade at Old Town in Winston-Salem and at Sampson Elementary in Kinston. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, where she served as a teacher and the director of the preschool for decades until her retirement. She was a member of the church choir and the Lioness Club until her health began to diminish.

Survivors: her husband of 53 years, Jim Houser; children, Jeffery and Jennifer Houser with her grandchildren Benjamin, Elizabeth, Johnathan and William, also Melyssa and John Newman, and Justin and Kelly Houser with Gail’s’ grandchildren, Jesse, Kirsty, Jeremy, Kaitlyn and Kodi; and other family and friends.

Memorials: First Presbyterian Preschool and the local SPCA.

A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 27 at First Presbyterian Church, Mocksville with the Rev. Dana Fruits officiating. Burial followed in Rose Cemetery.
