Lucille Bracken Canter

Mrs. Lucille Bracken Canter, 91, died on  Sept. 6, 2018 at her residence after a brief but valiant fight against the cancer that took her life.

Mrs. Canter was born on Sept. 22, 1926 in Mocksville.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lewis Albert Canter, and by her parents Levi and Minnie Bracken as well as her 7 siblings.

Survivors: 2 sons Lewis A. Canter II (Sharon) and Eddie Canter (Kim); grandchildren, Matthew Canter (Natalie), Dustin Canter, Keleigh May (Joe), Rachel Deschenes (Thomas); great-grandchildren Tucker May, Emery Canter and Lewis A. Canter III (Tripp); and many friends, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Canter was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church. She was a loving, pleasant person known for her friendliness, Southern hospitality, humility, kindness, cooking skills, loyalty, and sense of humor. She was truly a Southern “gentlewoman.” Her legacy is that of a life well lived with great service to her God, her family, and her friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Chapel in Greensboro on Saturday, Sept. 8. On Sunday, Sept. 9, visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville, followed by the funeral. Burial will be at the Chestnut Grove United Methodist cemetery.
