Mocksville residents will begin paying a $30 tax per vehicle to help maintain town streets.

Town board members unanimously approved the tax while adopting the 2018-2019 budget at their June meeting.

The tax will be paid when renewing license plates.

The move is expected to bring in an estimated $155,610 to the town. No more than $5 of the tax can be used for a purpose other than street maintenance.

The property tax rate for the town did not change.
