Lena Mae Ijames Allen

Lena Mae Ijames Allen, 86, of Mocksville, died at home Wednesday, June 6, 2018, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Allen was born in Davie County on Aug. 21, 1931, to Noah and Ila Smith Ijames. She graduated from Mocksville High School in 1948 and married Cecil William Allen on Nov. 24, 1949. Mrs. Allen was a founding member of the Davie County Quilt Guild and the Sheffield-Calahaln Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of Center ECA as well as New Union United Methodist Church. She loved quilting, sewing, gardening, canning and collecting cow figurines. She was employed by Wonderknit of Mocksville from 1970 until the plant closed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil; a brother, Robert Ijames; and a grandchild, Kelli Leigh Drye.

Survivors: 3 children, Vicki Groce (Randy), Linda Kay Drye and David Allen (Dawn), plus 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at New Union United Methodist Church in Sheffield with the Revs. Eric Lineberry and Billy Jarret officiating. The family received friends at the church from 1:30-3 p.m. She was laid to rest beside her late husband in the church cemetery.
