Womans club spreads some ‘kindness’

Each year members of GFWC-NC Mocksville Womans Club (MWC) take an active role in supporting causes through community service programs (CSP).
Club members were greeted at their November meeting with table centerpieces of fruits and vegetables that gave nod to the upcoming holiday season of thankfulness. For those less fortunate, members of Conservation CSP collected bags of food that were delivered to A Storehouse for Jesus.
Conservation’s hands-on project, painted “kindness” rocks, was one that exemplified club value of kindness shown to all. Members donned aprons and painted scenes and quotes on stones for Central Davie Academy.
In addition, 50 red and green Christmas baskets are being filled with goodies for Storehouse to deliver to nursing homes in December as part of Home Life CSP.
As part of the Art CSP, students at Central Davie Academy enjoyed Halloween treats and painted the pumpkins MWC members delivered to the school in late October.
In education, co-chairs talked to guidance counselors and set up mock interviews to prepare for the MWC monetary donation which will support programs at Davie High School and Smart Start. The date for scholarship applications to be submitted is Jan. 31, and interviews are scheduled for Feb. 21.
Last month, MWC showed support through donations to Samaritans International of Waxhaw and the Pochocuape Christian School located in Managua, Nicaragua as part of their International Community Service Project.
Public Issues CSP has focused efforts on a Hometown Hero project to let first responders know how much they are appreciated for their sacrifices made to keep community safe. Homemade desserts will be delivered to the sherriff and fire departments, Mocksville Police Department, volunteer fire departments and emergency medical service units. Club members will deliver the homemade cakes, cupcakes, pies, and cookies to 357 recipients.
An upcoming fundraiser and Woman’s Day event with special guest speaker will be on April 21, 2018.
Women in Davie County interested in learning more about GFWC-NC Mocksville Womans Club are invited to attend the December meeting as a guest.
