John “Wayne” Mayhew, 80, of Statesville, died on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

He was a native of Forsyth County, born Sept. 15, 1937, the son of the late Leonard and Margaret Myers Mayhew. He was also preceded in death by: his wife, Katherine Marie Fletcher Mayhew in 2013; a daughter, Rosa Mayhew; 3 brothers, Bob, Roger and Leonard “L.C.” Mayhew; and a sister, Betty Lou Bledsoe.

Mr. Mayhew was retired from the furniture industry.

Survivors: a son, Kevin Mayhew of Advance; a step-son, Horace Frenchie Barnette of Statesville; 4 step-daughters, Teresa Hayes (Ron) of Statesville, Kathy and Sharon Barnette, both of Harmony, and Gail Johnson (Kevin) of Statesville; a brother, David Mayhew of Harmony; 2 sisters, Margie Gobble (Tom) and Shirley Long (Max), both of Advance; plus several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 at Davie Funeral Service. The celebration of life service was conducted at noon Friday, Dec. 1 at the funeral chapel with Rev. Tim Sink officiating. Burial followed in the Society Baptist Church Cemetery in Iredell County.
