Erika Elfrieda Tinkl Ward

Erika Elfrieda Tinkl Ward, 82, died at Mocksville Senior Living Center Friday, Oct. 20, 2017.

Born in Czechoslovakia on Feb. 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alois Tinkl and Elfrieda Kauer Tinkl, and the widow of the late Franklin Delano Ward who died Dec. 12, 1994. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Ward had a career in retail. She worked in sales in the shoe department at the Sears Friendly Center location in Greensboro. She was a member of Hinshaw United Methodist Church in Greensboro.

Survivors: a daughter, Angela Griffey and husband  James of Advance; 2 brothers, Erich and Lothar Tinkl, both of Germany; and 2 grandchildren, Jillian and Ian Griffey.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alois Tinkl.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Ward Cemetery in the Prestonville/Sandy Ridge Community of Stokes County where her cremains will be laid to rest beside her late husband. The family will receive friends at the cemetery.
