Robert Andrew Jones Sr.

Robert Andrew Jones Sr. died on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 in Rowan Regional Hospital following a period of declining health.

He was born Aug. 30, 1933 in Pickens County, S.C., son of the late Eugene Jones Sr.,and Matilda P. Jones. He attended Davie County Schools, and worked as a farmer and in the textile industry. On Dec. 19, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mamie C. Jones. They shared 51 years of marriage.  They were blessed with four sons.  For more than 60 years, he was an active member of Boxwood Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, musician and president of senior shoir, treasurer, superintendent and Sunday School teacher.  He loved to garden, tinker with electronics, play the guitar, piano, and sing vocal music. While his children were at home, he formed, “The Jones Family Singers.”

He was preceded in death by: 4 brothers, LV, Ernest, Harrison, and Eugene Jones; 3 sisters, Eddie Pruitt, Carrie Wilkerson and Ollie Jones.

Survivors: his wife, Mamie C. Jones of the home; 4 sons, Robert (Deborah) Jones Jr. of Graham, Michael (Jill) Jones Sr. of Salisbury, Timothy (Ramona) Jones Sr. of Mocksville, and Bradley Jones of Mocksville; a brother, Melvin (Doris) Jones of Mocksville; a sister, Ozener Clark of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren, Timothy Jones Jr., Robert N. Jones, Michael Jones Jr., Elizabeth H. Jones and Ashlee Jones; 2 sisters-in-law, Mollie Redmond and Vanessa Cuthrell; 2 brothers-in-law, Jesse Cuthrell and Leo Pruitt; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

His funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at Boxwood Baptist Church in Mocksville. The Rev. Garry Milton officiated, and burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at the church one hour before the service.
