Ellen Lucille Hudson

Ellen Lucille Hudson diedn Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, in Winston-Salem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.

She was born in Rowan County on Aug. 12, 1934, daughter of the late James and Callie Williams Horn. She attended Davie County Schools, and graduated from Davie County Training School in the class of 1952. She had an aspiration to become a nurse and for several years worked as a CNA at Fran Ray Nursing Home in Mocksville. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served as a missionary until her health failed. She was married to Thomas Hudson, who preceded her in death in 1977. She was known in the community for her beautiful flower garden, which she enjoyed working in, and sitting on her front porch in the swing.

Survivors: sons, Norris Hudson of Mocksville and David Hart of Winston-Salem; 2 daughters, Julia (Kevin) Simmons of Winston-Salem and Tammy Hudson (Jerry Allen) of Mocksville; a sister, Verbena Young of Winston-Salem; 4 grandchildren, Devin Hart, Tekia Torrence, Jermaine Melton, and Latrice Stevenson; 4 great-grandchilden; 3 special nieces, Carmen Horn, Lisa Dulin and Elaine Dulin; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Mocksville. The Rev. Joe Clark officiated.
