A.R. ‘Shorty’ York III

Mr. A. R. “Shorty” York III, “Junior,” 68, of Twin Cedars Golf Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at his home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1948 in Davie County to the late A. R. “Shorty” York Jr. and Emma Louise Waller York. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during Vietnam. He earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mocksville. He owned and operated York and Son Service Station. His hobbies included hunting with his son and NASCAR racing.

Survivors: a son, Aaron R. York IV, and a sister, Judy Bailey (Joe), all of Mocksville; several nieces and nephews; and 4 people who were special to him, Sydney, KV, Megna and Devon.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 25 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Glenn L. Myers Jr.  and the Rev. A. Shane Nixon officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, July 24 at Eaton Funeral Home.
