Whit Merrifield is proving that he belongs in the Major Leagues.

After getting called up from the minors by the Kansas City Royals, Merrifield, of Advance, singled in the bottom of the eighth Wednesday night to extend his career best 16-game hitting streak, the longest active streak in the Majors and the longest this season by a Royal.

Batting second, the second baseman has played in 36 games, and has raised his batting average to .294.
