Memorial Day programs

Mocksville

A Memorial Day program sponsored by Graham Funeral Home in Mocksville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Brock Performing Arts Center on North Main Street.

The Davie High School JROTC will present the colors, and the Davie Singing Seniors will perform.

Guest speaker will be Mocksville Mayor Will Marklin, a 1987 Davie High graduate and 1990 graduate of Wake Forest University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Marklin is co-owner of Daniel Furniture and Appliance and Davie RV and Boat Storage. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Mocksville and has been mayor since 2015. He and wife Julie have three children.

All veterans attending the ceremony will be recognized, and will receive a free lunch afterwards at Marcos Pizza, courtesy of the Mocksville Rotary Club.

Cooleemee

A Memorial Day service for comrades who have died during the past year – Howard Anderson, Norman “Hoot” Canupp and Johnny Miller – will be held Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Cooleemee, sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Cooleemee-Mocksville Post 1119.
