Darnell Cleary, 87, of Mocksville, died on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.

Born in Davie County Jan. 25, 1930, he was the son of the late William Acie Cleary and Agnes Ratledge Cleary. He was the husband of Patricia Ann Bulla Cleary who survives. Mr. Cleary had a 43-year career with Dixie Furniture Co. and was a supervisor. He was a member of Liberty Wesleyan Church and attended Ijames Baptist Church.

Also surviving: 7 nephews, Buck Cleary (Sallie) of Advance, Jack Cleary (Brenda) of Greensboro, Mickey Gaither (Ruth), Butch Gaither (Peggy) and Louie Gaither (Barbara) all of Statesville, Charlie Cleary (Patsy) of Mocksville and Keith Bulla of New York City; 4 nieces, Jean Cleary (Bill) of Mocksville, Judy Gaither Laws of Statesville, Wanda Gallman of Moncks Corner, S.C. and Ruby Bailey (Jimmy) of Mocksville.

He was also preceded by: his son, Don Michael Cleary; 5 brothers, Ray Cleary, Jack Cleary, W.H. (Bill) Cleary, J. Norman Cleary and Lester M. Cleary; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Gaither, Anne Houston and Pauline Welborn.

The family was to friends from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at Ijames Baptist Church. The celebration of life service was to be at 3 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Daniel Harmon officiating. Burial was to follow at Liberty Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
