  • Mrs. Mary Tom Spry Carter, 90, of Will Boone Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.

    She was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Davie County to the late William Thomas and Ossie Ella Lagle Spry. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Cooleemee High School, Class of 1945. She retired after 39 years with Western Electric/AT&T. She was a member of AT&T Pioneers and the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and cooking. She was known for her cakes and making chicken pies for family

    She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wesley Carter; an infant son, Clyde Keith Carter; and a son-in-law, James Terry Cornatzer.

    Survivors: a daughter, Andrea Carter Cornatzer of Mocksville; 2 grandchildren, David Cornatzer (Christy) and Meredith Perez (Gamaliel); 4 great-grandchildren, Noah Cornatzer, Lily Perez, Kayden Cornatzer and Alex Perez; special caregiver, Crissy McEwen; and lifelong friend, Mildred Seamon.

    A funeral service was conducted at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 8 at Liberty United Methodist Church with the Revs. Brad Cunningham and Karen Roberts officiating. The body was placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Friday, April 7 at Eaton Funeral Home.
