Edward Earl Nesbit

Edward Earl Nesbit, 90, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Nesbit was born May 30, 1926 of Rowan County a son of the late Oscar Talmage Nesbit and Mary America Wetmore Nesbit. He was a graduate of Woodleaf High School.  He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in World War II. He worked for McLean Trucking for 33 years and worked in maintenance at Salisbury Lumber Co. He was a member of Spencer Masonic Lodge and Concord United Methodist Church in Mocksville. He and wife Dorothy were among the founding members of the Ellis Saddle Club. They were longtime summer residents of Myrtle Beach.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Dorothy Beck Nesbit, whom he married June 19, 1948 and died April 25, 2005.

Survivors: his sons, Gary Nesbit (Diane) of Salisbury and Tim Nesbit (Jian Wei) of Lake Norman; daughter Gail Nesbit Elwood (David) of Mocksville; sister Jane Gatewood of Asheville; grandchildren Spenser Nesbit, Jeffrey Nesbit and Matthew Howser.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m-noon Saturday, Feb. 18 at Summersett Funeral Home. The memorial service will be at noon at Summersett Memorial Chapel conducted by Pastor Arnold Gosnell with burial following at Rowan Memorial Park with military honors.
