Robert Sebron Foster

Mr. Robert Sebron Foster Sr., 92, died Dec. 25, 2016 in Clemmons.

He was born Jan.11, 1924 in Davie County to the late Dewey and Blanche Foster and spent his life in Davidson, Guilford, and Davie counties.  A pilot, he held multi-engine and instrument ratings. His favorite place to tell stories and jokes was with fellow pilots at Twin Lakes Airport in Advance. He also enjoyed snow skiing, hunting and golf. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946, primarily with the minesweeper USS Sheldrake in the Pacific theater of World War II. He held a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from N.C. State University and had a long career in banking and finance.

Survivors: his wife, Mary Joyce Howard Foster; his children, Georgette Foster and Robert S. Foster Jr. (Kim); grandchildren Justin Foster Hedrick (Sarah), Kennan Foster Hedrick (Emily), Elizabeth Ashmore Foster and Katherine Morgan Foster; great-grandchild Ariana Shampois; a sister, Louise Smith; and step-sons Tommy Howard, Steve Howard and the late Larry Howard.

He was also preceded in death by siblings George Foster, James Foster and Ruby Ann Williams.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Advance, with Dr. Chuck Baker officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends in the fellowship hall after the services.
