Robert Lee ‘Tarz’ Hampton Jr.

Robert Lee “Tarz” Hampton Jr., 72, of Cooleemeee, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at his home on Lefler Lane.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Davie County, born Aug. 19, 1944, and the son of the late Robert Lee Hampton Sr. and the late Gladys Canter Hampton.
He was also preceded in death by several siblings.
He was a graduate of Davie County High School and honorably served two years in the United States Army. He had a 30-year career with Ingersoll-Rand Co. and was a member of the Church of the Good Sheppard in Cooleemee.
Surviving: his son, Thomas K. Hampton and wife Lisa,of Cooleemee; his daughter, Heather H. Whitaker and husband James of Mocksville; 3 brothers, Johnny, Kenny and Jimmy Hampton, all of Cooleemee; 3 sisters, Joyce Spillman and Diana Barber of Cooleemee and Betty Jane Campbell of Mount Airy; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 Wednesday at Davie Funeral Chapel. A graveside celebration of life service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Legion Memorial Park in Cooleemee officiated by the Rev. Shelby Harbour. Military honors will be accorded by the NC National Guard and the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.
