Edward Harold ‘Ed’ Mays

Edward Harold “Ed” Mays, 69, died at his home under the care of Hospice on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016.

He was born in Rowan County on Oct. 4, 1947, the son of Rosa Mae Phelps Mays of Cooleemee and the late Harold Mays. He retired from Food Lion where he had worked in maintenance at the company warehouse. After retirement, he became a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Community Baptist Church. He was gifted artistically and had a number of paintings. He loved entertaining at his home in his “Party Club” where friends gathered to socialize and fellowship together.

Also surviving: his wife, Joyce Ann Osborne Mays; 2 daughters, Michelle Mays of Woodleaf and Tammy Mays of Virginia; a step-son, William “Bubba” Gibson (Angie); 2 step-grandchildren, Lisa and Jenna; a brother, John Mays (Peggy) of Cooleemee; 8 grandchildren, Hennisa, Jesse, Stephanie, Joshua, Carmela, Vanessa, Nicholas and Lilly; plus a niece, Shannon Mays.

Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Kimberly Mays.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Community Baptist Church, 612 Gladstone Road, Mocksville, with Pastor Mike Burchette officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service during which time the family will receive friends. Burial will follow in Legion Memorial Park in Cooleemee.
