Vera Elizabeth Davis

Vera Elizabeth Davis of Mocksville died on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

She was born Jan. 2, 1931 to the late Azillee Johnson Barker and Ben Johnson. She graduated from Davie County Training School in 1951. She moved to Jamaica Queens, N.Y. where she met her late husband, Dave Davis. After becoming disabled, she moved back to North Carolina and became an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Mocksville.

She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Emma Lee Frost and Lillie Mae Johnson; 5 brothers, Paul Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Ben J Johnson, Leonard Johnson, Thomas Johnson, and Bobby Johnson.

Survivors: 2 sisters, Dorothy Anderson of Mocksville, and Mildred Mitchener of Baltimore, Md.; 2 brothers, Calvin Johnson of Baltimore and Lawrence Rucker of Winston-Salem; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service was held on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 3:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home in Mocksville. The Rev. Joe Clark officiated and Pastor Rodney Barker delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home 30 minutes before the service.
