Lucille Leach Geter

Lucille Leach Geter of Woodleaf died on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, in Rowan Regional Hospital following a period of declining health, and seriously ill for 11 days.

She was born in Rowan County on Nov. 12, 1931, daughter of the late Baxter and Lurlie Leach. She attended Rowan and Davie County schools, and was a CNA in Rowan County.  At an early age she joined New Jerusalem Holiness Church, and later joined Freedom Mission (now Freedom United Church of God).  She served as the church secretary, Deaconess, choir member, and usher. She worked in the kitchen and will be remembered for cakes she made. She was married to Benjamin Geter for more than 50 years. She was a mother to two daughters. She loved to garden and bake cakes, and was a member of the Outstanding Women’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Geter in March of 2005.

Survivors: 2 daughters, Dianne (Michael) Brawley of Mt. Ulla, and Tonie G. Jones of Salisbury; 3 brothers, John (Carmen) Leach of Woodleaf, Mack A. (Dena) Leach, and Baxter Leach both of Salisbury; 7 sisters, Willie Mae Lucky of New Jersey, Lillian Summers, Barbara Hairston, and Priscilla Leach all of Salisbury, Helen Leach of Woodleaf, Ada (Norman) Morrison of Statesville, Patricia Funderburk of China Grove; 2 grandchildren, Darius Geter, whom she raised, and TeYonia (Norris) White; 2 great-grandchildren, Jayla and Zoey Geter; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. at Freedom United Church of God in Woodleaf. Bishop Willie Joe Gray will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
